Florida is moving closer to determing what types of renewable energy will be utilized in this state.
A huge step forward was made in the conversation between consumer advocates, renewable energy industry officials, and environmentalists, who are helping the Public Utilities Commission to create their proposal to the state legislators on renewable energy for Florida, due by the end of January.
Commissioner Nathan Skop proposed some of the following:
- 20% of Florida's energy to come from renewable sources by 2020
- Allow some funds used on renewable projects to be used as rebates for customers who install solar panels on their homes or business
- Eliminate heavy incentives for wind and solar as previously proposed
- Keep renewable energy prices low and encourage producers to competitively bid for prices
